2015 Wind Gap Sceales Grenache
Once again these 100+ year old-vines have produced another stunning Grenache. The sandy soils provide the wines purity, while the intensity from dry farming and low yielding old-vines give the density and energy. The first vintages were both fermented and aged in concrete with a barrel or two for what didn’t fit into the concrete tanks. As we look back on the early wines we noticed that the wine benefited from aging in barrels more than it did in concrete. So this vintage saw more old barrels than the vintages before it and is all the better for it.
Slightly riper than typical aromas for this old-vine Grenache, it shows the warmth of the vintage and the totality of ripeness achieved in 2015. Clean red & black fruit and firm construction keep this one just as detailed as previous vintages, just with a little something extra. Built to last this one will be best served once the weather has cooled or if you cannot wait, with some fresh spring lamb before the summer heat arrives.
