2014 Wind Gap Mi-Pente Pinot Noir
Meaning ‘‘mid-slope’’ in French, this wine was conceived out of the intention of creating a consistently superior bottle of Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast. Because our vineyards on the Sonoma Coast are at the mercy of the vintage and the extremes of the climate, we don’t vineyard designate these sites every year. In the Burgundy region of France, the mid-slope is almost always where the Grand Cru plots lie, which is why we have called this wine Mi-Pente. This enables us to pull the fruit located where the soil best lends itself to high quality winemaking, the mid-slope. We then blend these superior components to create as remarkable a wine as we can pull together from our vineyards on the coast…the results so far have been stellar.
Effusive black fruit, underbrush and dark spicy aromas make for a super classic smelling Pinot Noir with well-integrated new oak. The concentration from the high quality fruit is obvious and the finesse and purity couldn’t be more pronounced or clear. This is a complete and sophisticated Pinot Noir that improves in the glass. Drink from 2017 - 2027.
